Scorpion 1000 vs Scorpion 1000 MG

Post by jerkbait22 » Fri Feb 22, 2013 10:37 am

Hey guys,

My old scorpion 1000 is one of my favorite reels and I have even keeping an eye out for a new one. I have te scorpion 1000 XT but it does not perform nearly as well as the original 1000.

I have been able to locate a 1000 MG But my question is does it cast as well as the regular scorpion 1000? Trying to decide if I should pull the trigger. Thanks in advance.

the casting performance should be comparable if not better... the Scorp 1000Mg spool is actually a hair lighter in weight, approx 1g less.

I can cast futher with my Scorpion 1000 than my buddy can with his 1000 MG. But I don't know how well he takes care of the reel. I keep mine up really well.

I have both the Scorpion 1001 & the mg 1001. The mg will cast a bit farther but I like the the Scorpion 1001 better.

I bought a used, scuffed up original Scorpion about 2 months ago, sent it out for some new bearings and drag, and was ASTOUNDED when I got it back. I didn't realize I would see such an improvement. It was great when I got it....just decided to see what an upgrade it would do.

It's probably now the "Ugly Duckling" of all my reels, but one of the very best performers. It constantly amazes me.

It is pretty much a "set it and forget it" all purpose reel, and casts right up there with my SOL and Pixy. Only heavier and for a "tad" heavier baits.

When my brother comes with me, I hand him the Scorpion and he is delighted. (And I don't have to worry about him banging it up!) I ALMOST bought the new model 1000XT, figuring it would be better than the original. Just haven't worked up to it yet snce I'm so satisfied.

For sure a "best bang for the buck" reel!! Maybe one day I can come across a "pristine" example of it and pick it up!
