Suggestions for buying my first JDM reel

Post by snowbass15 » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:48 pm

I am looking to buy my first JDM reel. I have already been looking at the the old scorpion 1000 and the new one. I am willing to spend 400$ max but would like to be under so I can put money toward a rod. Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be a JDM Revo LT or LTX. I have both and love them, and while now inexpensive, they won't break the bank.

Really hard to go wrong with a TD-Z/variant for your first JDM reel. My first 2 JDM reels were a TD-ito and a silver mica Pixy. It's been all downhill since then.

Agreed on this! An Alphas 103 is also an excellent "entry level" JDM reel. One of my faves. Even a standard TD-Z 103 or 100M will give you a case of perma-grin.

I just watched an alphas 103aiL go for 225 buy it now on epay. If your willing to go used 400 should be plenty for a quality reel.

Lots of good deals on the 'Bay. I recently scooped a really clean TD-Z 105h for $205 shipped.

I second these comments! I love my TD-Z's....103 and 100M!! And also have the Alpha and the Pixy. I think my life is complete!!

Thank you guys very much for all of the comments. I looked at all of the reels you guys have reccomended and have narrowed it down to the alphas and have a question- Whats the difference between the type f alpha and the ito alpha?

I love my Metanium MG7 and my JDM Zillion even more....especially with the upgraded drag and bearings in the handle, the Zillion is probably a little more versatile than my MG7 and palms more comfortably.

The biggest difference is the weight reduction and the spool tuning.

If you want a JDM reel that will completely satisfy your desire for a piece of functional art, the discussion begins and ends with the Conquest 50.

X2
Conquest 50 would be my pick too but you'll have to shop used to get one under $400.

Would you believe that I only paid $210 for a brand new Conquest 50 about 6 years ago? Oh, how times have changed!
