Auction site gems
Re: Auction site gems
Personally not really interested in these, but for those who are, link to yahoo auctions for ZPI spools, less any keywords related to bait finesse, shimano related spools, avail, etc.
http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... x=commerce
That's one of the auction sites anyway.
And second-hand sites like Tackleberry if you can learn to navigate it...

Any idea of how to purchase from Tackleberry. They had some used rods that I wanted before.y2k88 wrote:Personally not really interested in these, but for those who are, link to yahoo auctions for ZPI spools, less any keywords related to bait finesse, shimano related spools, avail, etc.

Ordered through PLAT once for a rod, 10% commission.kakaryan wrote:Any idea of how to purchase from Tackleberry. They had some used rods that I wanted before.
Also ordered through Fishing Maruonouchi for a reel.
Re: Auction site gems
Good to know. How much did Maruonouchi charge? Thanks.y2k88 wrote:Ordered through PLAT once for a rod, 10% commission.kakaryan wrote:Any idea of how to purchase from Tackleberry. They had some used rods that I wanted before.

Re: Auction site gems
Good grief! That Tackleberry site has some great deals on all sorts of stuff I want/need!
Re: Auction site gems
I don't think Akihito charged me anything more than the reel and any shipping and handling fees he had to pay Tackleberry. But that's because I was already buying something from him.kakaryan wrote:Good to know. How much did Maruonouchi charge? Thanks.
He can't do one piece rods though; well, just really expensive as he doesn't have a FedEx/UPS account.
Re: Auction site gems

Re: Auction site gems
Just a word of warning regarding Japanese auction sites and third party purchases,
-Prepare to pay around 20% of the purchase price for commission, bank charges.
-You need to pay shipping charges twice.Once from original seller to middle man, then again from middle man to you.
This increases the chance of package damage substantially.
-You are limited to auction photos,NO further questioning the original seller regarding condition.
-Avoid ordering one piece rods as shipping can be astronomical
My last rod cost me $470 in shipping alone First and last time.
All this being said, you can still find some gems out there.Be prepared to pay around 30% more than listed price at the end of the day,so think twice before you leap.
Stick to purchasing smaller items such as lures/reels/spools.Avoid those tempting 20 000 yen used Megabass rods, you will pay....
Hope this helps.

$470... damn!
For those interested about my previous PLAT order, breakdown for a 1pc rod shipped to Australia.
For those interested about my previous PLAT order, breakdown for a 1pc rod shipped to Australia.
This is JapanProFishing's take on it. May work out to be cheaper than PLAT in your case.rod .......24255YEN

Our commission ... 2506YEN
Shipping (International) ....10590YEN
Handling charge ....965YEN
====================================
Total amount : 39116YEN
Calculation will be as follow
1. Rod Price
2. Commission 5,000JPY
3. Domestic Shipping from seller to my shop (usually 1,000 to 2,000JPY) depending on seller
4. UPS Shipping please check rate table below

5. Payment Bank Fee 420JPY (To pay the seller by bank transfer)
6. PAYPAL fee 4% on Total cost.
Re: Auction site gems
Previously I was eyeballing on an used Megabass ARMS and this was the quote from a local third party.
Rod was about 40,000yen
Bank charge 315yen.
Tackleberry to the third party office in Japan 800yen
Japan to the third party office in my city 5000yen.
0.008% handling charge.
The quote is quite reasonable, considering a brand new ARMS cost 80,000yen.
But I did show my concern and clarify to the third party that the rod was 1pc which s about 200cm. They replied me that for 1pc rod they would only ship by sea and the shipping time was about 1month, which cost 5000yen, and I could buy extra insurance so that if the rod broke accidentally I could file a claim.
What do you guys think? Maybe someone purchased used rod from Japan before could shed some light on me. Cheers.

Re: Auction site gems
Was it a rod or reel? Which means the condition rating on tackleberry is not quite accurate? Thanks.phiten wrote:been there done that

Re: Auction site gems
I've been burned badly a time or two myself - everything from the item not being close to as described, to the final cost being much higher than anticipated, to having an insurance claim denied by the carrier. There is little to no recourse should something go wrong so buyer beware - it's like gambling reallyphiten wrote:been there done that not worth it cause u might end up with a condition you are not expecting. i got skunked once and i wont do that again.
