Need a reel to pair with the MB Cliffhanger!
I finally pulled the trigger and got myself the Megabass Destroyer Phase 3 Cliffhanger! Got it from MBUSA and am meeting one of the representatives who lives near me to pick it up sometime next week. I'm thinking of wading up into the shallows of my river and casting finesse jigs into deeper pockets for Smallmouth Bass. Now all I need is a reel... I dropped quit a bit on the rod (no regrets) so I don't want to spend a fortune on the reel. I'm thinking of going for the Daiwa Steez, should I get it now or will it become cheaper, I'm talking about the older model just so you know.
The Alphas Custom Finesse looks good, the Liberto Pixy looks sweet but the handle is a bit dated. I don't know, any help would be appreciated!

Pixy 68 over Steez. Unless u have another rod Steez could ride on.

I was thinking the PX68 as well, it matches the Cliffhanger so well and is perfectly suited for the finesse techniques I am planning to use.phiten wrote:Pixy 68 over Steez. Unless u have another rod Steez could ride on.

The Steez of your choice with a Megabass IS Finesse spool is a fine choice for the Cliffhanger... though a set of cork knobs on there would really tie it all together!

A Steez on sale with the IS BF spool won't run you much over what a new px68 costs. The spool and Steez combo will blow you away, I'm sure of it.

How much like could I get on that shallow spool, I heard it's almost too shallow. Thinking of putting on 8lb fluoro.Katron wrote:A Steez on sale with the IS BF spool won't run you much over what a new px68 costs. The spool and Steez combo will blow you away, I'm sure of it.

If u hv some Shimano or Abu reels already I'd suggest to get a ZPI BFC (Bait finesse concept) kit that suit it.
It cost about 16800yen and mine could hold at most 75m 8lb mono and 100m 8lb power pro braid.
I also have a Hedgehog Custom Zonda coming soon and from pics I guess the spool is shallower than the ZPI's. Personally I love matching Daiwa with MB only so if someone ask me to choose a reel for the cliffhanger I wouldnt put a Core or Alderbaran on it. Get a used Pixy to save some $$ or blow it up with T3 Air or IS with shallow spool.

How do you like the dredge finger handle? Beautiful paint job, the handle and cork knobs do tie it all together!africanbass wrote:Spot onbronzefly wrote:The Steez of your choice with a Megabass IS Finesse spool is a fine choice for the Cliffhanger... though a set of cork knobs on there would really tie it all together!

The custom MB reel seat does the job perfectly.I also enjoy the slim cork grip.
