Curious if the Avail Microcast spools will fit my particular reel.

there are Avail spools to fit most if not all versions of the SX, though Avail may have ceased production on some of them (those for the SX Hi Speed for example).

Does your reel have the IVCB braking system? If so, check the last item on this page:

http://www.japantackle.com/Tuning_parts ... ls_abu.htm

If not, I'd send Jun an email anyway and see if he could get his hands on a spool for your reel. As zb said, it might just not be in production anymore.

The reel doesn't come with the ICVB braking system. Checked online, and one auction site shows multiple spools, but the descriptions were vague. Sent an email to Jun. I'll wait and see what he says. Thanks all!

if your reel does not have the external brake adjustment dial, its the SX1601C Hi Speed.

the model inscription on the frame above the levelwind should indicate if its an SX Mag, Ultra Mag/Forell, or IVCB in which case it's just a matter of ordering the matching spool thru japantackle.

UM, Forell, & IVCB tuneup spools are compatible with each other. Hi Speed & SX Mag tuneup spools only work with their respective reels.

Mine is the Hi Speed as it lacks any external brake adjustments.

It's been a while since I've had my Ultra Mag S2 but it had an external brake adjustment. Can you post a pic of the non-handle sideplate?

I have that same reel only right handed SX1600C. I also have a 3600 Forrell which came with a shallow spool, but I don't know if a 1600 Forrell would work. :?:

the Hi Sp spool has 2-pin brakes, so its spool won't work in the SX versions using magnetic braking (Mag, UM, S2, Forell) and won't work with the IVCB centrifugal system either... i have a couple of Morrum SX's so can tell you from experience.

if you can source JDM parts, you may be able to convert the sideplate to accept the spools above, but since these reels are discontinued it may be easier to locate the Hi Sp tuneup spool than find all the parts for a conversion.

Didn't realize I could convert the reel using the aforementioned sideplate. Will have to scratch that idea for the moment
Will see what I can find regarding the tune up spool. Thanks all!

Received an email from Kayo at Japantackle and was told this spool would fit my reel:
http://www.avail.jp/shop/products/ms_sxmg16/index.html
$124 after shipping was the price quoted. Will have to buy, as the tackle gorilla is strong.

might want to have them verify that, since in translation it states it won't fit your reel:

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... =Translate

i'd have them confirm that this spool has the pins mounted for the brake weights... if they didn't mention using the Avail mag brake assembly in conjunction with this spool, then i don't see where your braking will come from besides your thumb :)
