core 50 mg & aldebaran

are they truly equal? besides gear ratios and bearing counts, what differences if any?

there has been a million post about this. It has a longer handle and better color. i never owned a core or any domestic shimano so i can't say how they perform compared to the bob.

I have both (Aldebaran Mg7 LH and Core 51 Mg7). The Aldebaran Mg7 RH/LH and Core 50/51 Mg7 are identical (bearing count=8+1, handle length=84mm) except for the color and perform identically. Tackle Warehouse's listing of 7+1 for the Core 50/51 Mg7 is incorrect.

The Aldebaran Mg RH/LH (5.8 ratio) has the shorter 80mm handle. There does not appear to be a Core 50/51 counterpart to the Aldebaran Mg RH/LH. Every reference I have seen to a Core 50/51 has actually been the Core 50/51 Mg7.

I believe you are correct. I compared the two reels side-by-side and took an 'Mark I, eyeball' measurement yesterday before posting, but did not remove the two handles for a precise measurement .

After looking at them again, the Aldebaran's handles does appear to be slightly longer. But later today, I will remove the two handles and measure each to 'know' definitively .

Then the statement that Core 50/51 Mg7 does not have a JDM counterpart is correct. Because the Aldebaran Mg7 has a longer handle than the Core 50/51 Mg7, while the Aldebaran Mg has the same size handle, but different gear ratio.

Anyway, I want to add an Aldebaran to my collection as well. But they're just too expensive at the moment.
