reel for light baits/scorpion question

Post by lunkerrr » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:28 am

I am in the market for a finesse casting reel, for light plastics and the occasional light crank. I have read many of the previous threads regarding this topic and have seen mention of the pixy, alpha, TDZ, scorpion, chronarch, etc. (I want low profile not round). I am willing to spend upwards of $300. I was kind of set on trying to land a pixy, but so many people mentioned the scorpion in previous threads, I have been wondering if it stacks up to the other mentioned reels? It can be bought for far less money, and this is why it intrigues me. Thanks.

I think with 300$ you can buy a Sol and upgrade the handle an worm shaft with bearings and get an 11BB+1RB fishing machine that will for sure outcast competition easily.
You can also go with a Alpha 103 or ITO.

Are you looking for new or used? I've got a very lightly used alphas ito (lefty) in mint condition with box. I'm heading to Japan next month and wanted some tackle spending money... I'll let go of it for $225. The alphas have always been great with light baits.

I have a scorpion xt 1001, a sol, and a px68. The sol with abec 9 bearings cast the light stuff better than the scorpion with abec 9 and the px68 is amazing with the light baits with stock bearings.

Yes it is, but it is a subject still worth discussing. Besides, we need to build our post counts back up.

You will love the performance increase in both the sol and the scorpion. Just make sure you clean, dry, and relube the bearings before you install them. There is a set of daiwa abec 9 bearings for sale in the for sale/wanted/trade section.

Agreed, a subject worth discussing. I was just amused by the offer to sell the OP a reel (sorry Surferdave) :big grin:
