Questions about Japanese Rods

Post by Want » Fri Nov 24, 2006 5:46 pm

Looking for a rod for my Conquest 201DC to throw 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz. cranks and spinners. Major Craft has a 2pc (need 2 piece) DC 702H rated for 12 -25 lb line and 3/8 - 1 1/2 oz lures for $199.99. Sic guides. Action is "Regular, First" whatever that means.

I've read most of the posts on Japanese rods but admit I'm still really leary of buying them even though I buy Japanese sourced reels. That's why I'm choosing a lower priced rod. I'm hoping TT members will help out.

Hard question I know but for $200 am I getting a better quality rod than I would here for the same price?

Are Major Craft blanks at this price point comparable in quality to Loomis GL2, St. Croix Avid, Fenwick Techna? Heavier? Lighter? Thanks. V.R.

Just more of a comparable price in those than the others mentioned. I have never even seen the major craft so I have ZERO experience with them.

I too was sceptical, until yesterday.

Last Thursday I ordered a Megabass F2-64XS Ltd from Plat. It arrived this Thursday, but due to work commitments I didn't get to open it 'til yesterday.

The rod is truly exquisite, honestly the best I've had, and for the past 8 years I've ONLY had custom built.

The service from Plat is second to none.

Don't be leary, jump in and enjoy.

Simon.

I kind of worry where this may be headed. Based on TT reviews I started off buying a Daiwa 153HST, then a Fuego, then a Scorp 1000, then a Scorp MG, and then a Conquest 251 DC.

Now a "best value" JDM rod. V.R.
