GLoomis SOLD???

Post by AquaFish » Fri Apr 25, 2003 2:06 pm

A mate told me that Loomis was sold... to who? Is this true? Will the new rods be as good as before?

Yes, that's the word going around and I think it's true.

Welcome Josh and thanks for the info.

I wonder who's going to make rods for who now.
Hmm... Maybe high end Shimano rods made by Gloomis
and loomis low ends by Shimano... or... all Shimano...
That info would be interesting to know.

Hope more people join and have more info on this and can
share with the community here.

Thanks!

This is old news.

Loomis was purchased by Shimano part way through 2001. Operations remain largely as they did prior to the purchase.

Shimano's 2001 Annual Report has G Loomis in its Foreign Subsidary and Affiliates listing.

I owned a bunch of Loomis rods and still love them but I don't like the direction the company is taking. Ever since the "merger", you see more and more of these species specific rods, which to me, are just another marketing ploy to sell more GL3 blanks at the IMX price.

Shimano Japan has some nice rods but most of the domestic rods are still crap except for the V-Rods, which, if I'm correct, are assembled in Washington State, hence, Gloomis factory.

Shimano rules when it comes to reels but I hope they stay away from the Loomis side of their biz.. only input I want to see from Shimano is including thoes nice Titanium reel seats from the Shuala series rods (jp) on the loomis rods
When I grow up, I want to be like Cal
