Mepps In-Line Spinners & Trailer Hooks ?
Mepps In-Line Spinners & Trailer Hooks ?
Hello,
Fish locally for mainly small Crappies, LM and SM Bass.
My favorite lures are those Mepps in-line Spinners; usually their smallest sizes like "0", or
perhaps one or two sizes larger; but still "small".
Always trying to learn, so let me ask please:
a. Do folks use Trailer hooks (generally) behind the Treble Hooks on these, or only on the single hook styles ?
b. Same question as (a), but let me ask it for the Mepps with a Skirt. Trailers used on these ever ?
When is a good situation to put a trailer hook on these quite small size Mepps ?
What would you suggest as a Trailer ?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Mepps In-Line Spinners & Trailer Hooks ?
Crappies by me go crazy for a grub like trailer ( i use white) on the small in line Meps. It seems to attract bigger slabs for me. Just dont go too big on the grub size

Hi,
Thanks for help.
How specifically do you rig it ?
Off of a Mepps single hook or treble style ? Either ?
Skirt Mepps also ?
Any details would be appreciated. Have never used trailer-hooks on anything.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Mepps In-Line Spinners & Trailer Hooks ?
Single hook is easiest , and has best action - but if you take the treble off and back the eye-let of the treble into the grub a bit below the head and come out the top then pull down on the body of the grub and come thru with one of the hooks it sits OK and the tail still imparts the action that the grub is known for.

Hi,
Thanks for all your time in helping me understand Trailers a bit more.
One more quick one, and that'll be it for "Trailers," I think.
On these really small Mepps in-line spinners, do you attach the Grub, or other plastic, to the hook (single or treble) that
is already part of the Mepps, or would you hang another additional (trailer hook) off of the regular Mepps one ?
Regards,
Bob

Re: From OP: Re: Mepps In-Line Spinners & Trailer Hooks ?
I only put trailer hooks on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits - IF I am getting short-striked. Never tried it on a in-line spinner to be honestRobert11 wrote:Hi,

Ive only added plastic trailers to the existing hooks on a in-line spinner - Ive also used the dough wedged onto the treble for trout
