Rod for Catfish
I want to get a new rod that will be used for catfish. I will be fishing in a small river and primarily will be using sinkers from 1-3 oz. The majority of the catfish I catch here range anywhere from 1lb up to 20lbs. What are your recommendations? It needs to be a casting rod.
Re: Rod for Catfish
If I were you I'd use a rod typically considered a heavy/extra-heavy rod like the "Catfish" Ugly Stick Rod. They can handle a tremendous amount of abuse at a very modest price $30 +/-, better still the BassPro CatMax rod is even better with greater control, http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-C ... uct/90928/.
Hope this helps.

I just use my Amazon Flip and Super Red Demon. Any Flipping rod or swimbait rod will do.
Re: Rod for Catfish
I use an 8' Heavy-Moderate Premier Musky rod for my casting rod. I would look at musky rods, inshore rods, or something along those lines. Ugly Stik or other glass rods are an option, but they're kinda whippy. I find it hard to cast larger weights with the Ugly Stik I have because it flexes too much. Definitely look for moderate action as well. It will help the hooksets when using live baits.

I use my abu garcia veritas micro guide 'medium-heavy' action rod for catfish. Its a medium heavy rod but its a no medium heavy...it should be rated above a medium heavy. Its perfect for throwing big bates out on the water and has the backbone needed to pull in big fish. Looks awesome too and can be bought at walmart for 72ish$
