Drop shot w/ jig question

Post by JerryC » Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:37 am

Has anyone tried the drop shot but instead of using a drop shot weight, using a shakey head jig or similar? How effective is t for you?

You have to use a special knot on the top hook to avoid breaking off when the fish bites the jig.
I don't think the two techniques are really conducive to using together. When I drop shot, I focus on keeping the weight on the bottom, and moving it as little, or slowly, as I can. \I lift and drop when there are weeds, drag in the rocks. If you jig it a lot, you'll get bad line twist.
Jigging doesn't really lend itself to that for me. I want to hop it, or swim it, pitch it, most of the time. If you drag a jig, unless you are in mud, you will get hung in the rocks, or the weeds.
Don't get me wrong, it works, but once you've established what they are hitting I would just switch to that anyway.
