Knots for topwater lures

Post by crankit » Thu Sep 11, 2003 7:41 pm

Hi, what type of knots do you guys use for topwater
lures like poppers and spooks?

Tie it straight to the lure which does not have a split ring,
or put a split ring, swivel, or tie a rapala knot?
Thanks!

for small poppers I find that a rapala (or any loop knot for that matter) knot gets caught on the hooks too easily. So I usually just tie a trilene to a split ring. For walk the dog type lures, I tie a loop knot so the lure can do more of its own thing. Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the tips. When I use rapala knot it does what
you described, the knot gets around the hook.
When I use spook, no matter what knot I tie sometimes maybe I
work the lure wrong it even gets caught in the back hook.

For poppers, I like to tie them straight onto the lure.
No split ring nor snap swivel.
