bait
Re: bait
Good question. But most of the time when fishing with crayfish,
don't you want to use them when they are changing shells?
So their body is nice and soft. Then you don't have pincher problems.
I am not sure. If others can input, that would be helpful.
I know live crayfish can catch many big fish. But never got to try it.

Re: bait
SINCE WHEN HAVE YOU FISHED WITH LIVE CRAYFISH!!!!!
i dunno what type of fishin u do but for fresh water fish especialy in gravel pits in the cotteswolds (uk) the only thing that would even try a crayfish would be a pike and even then it would have to be despirate so i couldnt answer your quessie but if you are after a big predatory fish i would say take its pincers off or disable it in some way to make fish think it would be worth the effort.

All kinds of freshwater fish eat crayfish. Bass, stripers, walleye, drum, perch, and catfish (blues, channel, and flatts) love them.
Usualli I leave off the pinchers - depends on the size of the crawfish,
Sometimes I just use tailmeat as well. Works really well.
