Braid for hard jerkbaits?
Anyone use braided line for hard jerkbaits? No leader. Just wondering if it would be easier to twitch and save some money in the process!
Thanks!

Yeah I use braid with a heavy fluorocarbon leader. I think I prefer the 10lb straight fluorocarbon better though. I'm going back an forth on the subject.Bryan Capes wrote:Anyone use braided line for hard jerkbaits? No leader. Just wondering if it would be easier to twitch and save some money in the process!

I always use braid for jerks, but I use braid for everything, even cranks. So I may be a bad example. Use a leader or the trebles catching the braid and fouling the lure will drive you nuts. A rod w/ more give helps too.

I use braid tied to a clip. Works just fine for me.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
I like braid for hard jerkbaits. I do use a fluoro or mono leader. I fish heavily pressued water, I feel it gets me more bites.
Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
A lot of times i dont use a leader i just tie the jerkbait to the braid an do just as good .
Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
I use straight braid with a lower drag setting and a limber rod.
Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
Braid for sure. There are a lot of pike where I fish, so I have to use a leader. Flouro or wire, which I tie myself. My wire leaders are typically 5 or 6 inches long, 40 lb seven strand.
Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
For larger jerkbaits I like to use straight braid such as a Lucky Craft 127mr. But for smaller ones like the 110's I will either use a fluoro leader or mono.
Get your kids hooked on fishing, and they'll never have any money for drugs or alcohol.
Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
I use Braid for everything, bluegill to Muskie, but I always use a leader, 3lbs. Fluoro to 25 lbs. Big game depending on what I am going after and water clarity. I use the 25 lbs. in very weedy cover, I use Fluoro, 3lbs. for gill, and perch, and 6 or 8 lbs for Walleye rigging, in 6 to 10 foot lengths, I use my own built-up 20" 130 lbs. fluoro leaders for Muskie and larger toothy monsters. For jerkbaits I would use 6' to 12' Fluorocarbon joined to my braid with a blood knot, this is my preferred attachment method to my braid unless I am using my built-up leader that uses a ball bearing swivel for attaching to my main line. I preffer Fireline Braid or Power Pro Super 8 Slick

Re: Braid for hard jerkbaits?
Braid for everything. For jerkbaits use a soft rod and don't jerk the bait as hard. You still get the same results but you have to compensate for the lack of stretch. If you use the same motion the trebles catch the line.

Are you saying braid helps the fish bite your lures more often or it braid helps you detect a bite better?
If its the former please key me in on the secret.

The Leader is the key to what he was saying...not the braid.
