Spring Run Steelhead

Post by eyezonz » Sat Mar 03, 2012 11:28 am

Any one going out in the mid-west for the spring steelhead run once it starts? What are you planning on using?
I ask about the mid-west because I want to know what people are using in cold water conditions.

I recently ordered some kwikfish in various sizes, hot shots, an array of spoons, and a few flicker shads.

Do you recommend anything else? hopefully I find some more idea of stuff to use from the things you guys do.

Counting down the days till the 14th of April. Hopefuly there will be a good run this opener. I fish the North Shore of Superioir and typicaly drift a spawn sack or yarn fly early in the year. Some artificials work well too, my favorites being small krocodile spoons or little cleos. Where exactly are you fishing? Patterns vary greatly on different rivers, let alone states or lakes. You would probably be best off asking the locals at whatever river you are heading to.
