light spinning reel, fuego, patriarch or Ci4 ?
Hello,
I'm french, and I'm living in the united since 2 month. I'm looking for a spinning reel for a L spinning rod, st croix avid.
I read a lot of topic to find a clear answer at my problem... but I didn't find it...
May be the best american tackle forum can help me..
I can't separate 3 reels :
patriarch 9025 or 9030
stradic Ci4
fuego 1000 or 1500.
Tell me for you wich one is the best ? It's for fishing with a 6lb fluoro, for weightless fishing of smallmouth.
I read that the fuego is the more smooth, but it's the more heavy, the patriarch is really a good reel ?
The fuego 1500 is like a shimano 2500 or more smaller in size ?
I'm a shimano man, but In this case I'm note sure that the stradic is the best...
Sorry for my english,
thanks a lot for your help

The Fuego is probably the smoothest of the 3. Although, the Patriarch is also very smooth.
Whatever the case, the CI4 is also "smooth enough". I doubt you would ever know the difference between the three while you were fishing. I have three CI4's, and if I need another spinning reel, it will probably be a CI4. I like some of the other features, like the faster retrieve, and the beveled spool lip.
Anyhow, if weight is a concern, you need to go with the Patriarch or the CI4. However the Fuego 1000 is pretty close in weight.
The Fuego 1500 is smaller than the 2500 Series CI4. The 2000 series Fuego is closer in size to the 2500 CI4.
In the end, any of those three brands would be a good choices. Ideally, if you could go to a store and put them on a rod similar to your Avid, you would have a little better idea of what you might like... at least for balance.

Go with the fuego. I bought a 2000 a few month ago and for $164 you can't go wrong!
A 2000 fuego is more like a 2500 CI4.
T'es dans quel coin frenchy?

Je suis dans le Minnesota, proche du nord dakota et du south dakota. (I'm in the Minnesota, near Fargo in North dakota)PittsBoy wrote:Go with the fuego. I bought a 2000 a few month ago and for $164 you can't go wrong!

I'm going to Florida in the end of February, so I need a combo to fish...
I Think that the best choice is a fuego, but I'm really afraid by the weight... I have a rarenium Ci4 2500 and it's not so heavy for a light rod, but it's too big...

For the money, go with the Patriarch. I've seen a lot of them that are 1/4% off its retail price on that auction site.

LOL... We're a lot of help. One guy says CI4, one guy says Fuego, and one guy says Patriarch.
Seriously Frenchi, if you can get your hands on the reels at a sporting goods store, and try them on a rod similar to yours, you'll be able to come to your own conclusion.

Re: light spinning reel, fuego, patriarch or Ci4 ?
I don't want to get the shimano, only 1 spool...
I think I will finally buy a patriarch...
I will fish from the shore, so I need a relatively big spool. The 9530 is not so big for a light rod ?
I only saw the 9525 and the 9535 size...
Thanks for your help

I read some new forum topics about small good reel...And now I vote for the fuego 1500....because it's a daiwa reel...
Crazy choice !!!

For 6 lb. fluorocarbon, you want a bigger spool than the Fuego-A 1500 offers. Go with the Patriarch 9530. I have Patriarchs in every size, and they are all smoother than the four Fuego-A's I have handled (in 1500, 2000, and 3500 sizes). They also have a higher retrieve ratio than the Fuego.
For any other Fuego testers/owners reading this: have you, too, been disappointed at the smoothness of this reel? Every one I have tried produces intermittent gear clunking significant enough to potentially mask a subtle strike on a falling jig. I kept a 2000 that clunks less with the antireverse on; unfortunately, I almost always fish spinning reels with the antireverse off for backreeling.

I vote Patriarch - it's smooth enough, and they are the lightest for their spool size. The light reel is more fun to fish.

I will buy the patriarch
But I'm not sure fore the size...
It's for a L avid rod, the 9530 is not to big for that rod ?
The 9530 is more bigger or more smaller than a stradic 2500 ?
Thanks

Re: light spinning reel, fuego, patriarch or Ci4 ?
The 9530 is about the same size as the Stradic CI4 2500. They weigh about the same too.
The 9525 would probably be a better size for the "L" Avid... unless you want a bigger reel?

Re: light spinning reel, fuego, patriarch or Ci4 ?
Assuming the rod has at least a 25 mm first guide, the 9530 is not at all too big. It weighs less than a lot of ultralight reels. You want as much spool diameter as you can get for the reel weight, especially if you are going to use 6 lb. fluorocarbon. More spool diameter means looser coils that produce less friction while passing through guides and give you better feel of your lure. It also means less twist.

Re: light spinning reel, fuego, patriarch or Ci4 ?
Thanks guys for your quick answers !
I want to fish with very light bait, like finess worm in weigthless or small shad or grub with 1/16 jig head.
I know that the 9525 is a little bit bigger than a stradic 1000 (patriarch is more long).
If the 9530 is a little bit bigger than a 2500, it's too big for me.
I have a rarenium 2500 and more big in a L rod is too big for me.
May be you have seen pictures where ci4 and patriarch was compared ?
But, the patriarch is also known for a reasonnable drag.. And the drag of the 9525 is may totally inadequate for a smallmouth fishing ? ( It should be ok for panfish fishing...)

I wouldn't say that the 9530 is "bigger" than the 2500 series Shimano reels. It's about the same size. Whatever the case the difference is not noticeable. Bronzeye makes a good point about the wider spool reducing the coiling. I use braid, so it's a non issue for me, but I still prefer the wider spool. Of course, I'm using the reels on ML and M rods.
