fishing near Dallas Tx

Got word yesterday that I'm leaving for Dallas next Wed. May be down there for 2-3 weeks depending. Sounds like enough time to sneak in alittle fishing. I'll have access to a vehicle but would like to keep it as close as possible. Fishing ,unfortunately, will be on foot but also open to canoe/kayak rental if possible. Partial to river fishing if possible. I've heard of some good smallmouth waters in some parts of Tx.

Any decent smallie rivers within driving distance?

Found a bit of info on the Brazos river below lake whitney. Looks like it good smallie water. Anyone here fish this area. Found an outfitter that shuttles for an 8 mi+ trip from lake whitney down.

How's the fishing around here?
