Made in...

Post by Aerotus » Mon Aug 18, 2003 10:44 am

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you care where your equipment
is made at.

I definitely prefer stuff made from quality countries
but nowadays it's harder because many companies
are moving their production to Asian countries.

Hey Aerotus -

You have a legitamate concern when you are purchasing your fishing gear or many other products in fact. This has not been a recent phenominom, many US/Cdn companies have been manufacturing their products overseas for decades. What most people do not realize is the lengths these companies go to to ensure the quality control is still being maintained. The base reasoning in moving overseas is to save overhead on land, labour and taxes. In North America, the governments are more concerned with tax hiked rather than economic boosts, whereas, these less fortunate countries welcome industry into their countries for the boost.
This is not to say close you eyes to products being imported, just know what and who is producing the items for them. Many large name brand companies farm out their rods, reels, lures and such with their name on them.

Just a little more to think about these day - like we need anymore.

When buying things like rods and reels, I look at where it's made,
quality, and of course cost. I have stuff made in USA, Japan,
Korea, and China. Since I can't afford to buy really
expensive stuff all the time, I tend to look at cost and quality.
If a reel or rod will last me a couple of seasons, but really cheap
in cost, I'll go for that. Plus, I like to have new stuff once
a while. It's no fun if the reel never breaks, then I don't get
to try out some new stuff. Plus, if the reel breaks, it's another
excuse I have to buy the latest and greatest without having to
reason with the wife. :D
