something for everybody, I guess!
I use my Supreme which is 5.2, which allows a nice slow bit full S pattern, if the bite is slow.
I'll speed it up for an aggressive bite, but 6.1 happens to be the highest happen to use....

4.7:1 for me. I need all the help I can get to slow down even when Im after inshore fish. I now also use a shorter counter balanced handle on my Ambassadeurs to slow it down even further. Its improved all my topwater and soft plastic techniques.

I like the fast retrieves, 7.0+ for me. When the fish blows up on it I simply use the speed of the reel to set the hook and turn my body. I land more fish this way. All that crazy, lip ripping, hook setting just tares a bigger hole in their mouths and gives them the upper hand when they come up to throw the bait. If you're use to using a spinning reel, you're use to a faster line pick up as most spinning reels in the 2500 size pick up about 28-34 inches per turn depending on spool diameter and gear ratio. If you drop down to a 6 sumthin gear ratio on this new combo your line pick up will drop to about 25-26 IPT. So stick with the faster gear ratio.

Me too, I can control the speed even if it's a 7:1 gear ratio. With time you can pretty much do everything with a high speed reel as a lower speed reel.
