Advice on new Salmon Rig

Post by grogers717 » Fri Jul 25, 2003 10:26 am

I'm looking to replace an old Penn Squidder/Fenwick rig. I used it for both shore and boat fishing. The Diawa Saltiga and Seeker rod combo sounds awesome, but is at the high end of my budget. What else should I be considering?

Thanks!

How about another Penn + Ugly stik combo?
Those are definitely a good fit and very affordable.

If your going ocean salmon fishing from a boat then a good outfit would be:
An ugly stick tiger rod and a penn 320 gti

Tough rod and durable reel. Parts are inexpensive too.
The 320 gti is a level wind so the novice angler does not have to worry about the line gathering on one side of the spool.

If you want a nicer rod, then go with a seeker.

I use these rods alot. Every weekend with new and experience anglers.
Holds up very well.

I use a Lamiglass rod with an Abu Garcia reel. I have been using the same rod now for about 10 years. I use it for Salmon and Steelhead year around. I broke my original Lamiglass and they replaced it for free, no questions asked.
