Fishing plastic worms

Post by bitesize » Thu Feb 05, 2004 1:45 pm

I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, so here it goes.
When I fish plastic worms, 4-6inches, texas rigged with a bullet
weight. But instead of having the cone/pointy part of the lead weight
going forward, the direction it will be retrieved at, I do the opposite.
When I do this, and I've looked at it in shallow clear waters, and I
twitch the worm, it appears to make the plastic worm stand up a bit
and like it's digging into the bottom of the lake. I can hold the worm
in one location longer while giving it much more movement to
attract fish. Also, if I'm not fishing it stationary, I would drag it on
the bottom, the concave portion of the weight, like a crankbait lip,
would dig up the dirty and stuff which I think attracts the fish.
Give this a try. Has anyeone else tried this?

Did you peg the wieght, or just leave it loose.

Leave it loose so the worm has more room to "move" around
when I'm fishing it stationary. I've caught many bass this way
and didn't lose that many to snagging. Actually, I believe it's harder
to snag fished this way. Sometimes different is good.
if you guys try it, let me know how it works for you.

TOo late, i already did, no just kidding but you should really try designing something like that, and market it. Change the shape and call it the stand up rig worm. Then you could make some hand poured plastics and charge a fortune.

I'm sure someone can do something like that.
But fishing is just a hobby for me. So I like to share my "secrets",
but only with T3 members.
Use it wizely. And if you win a tournament with it,
call it the Bitesize technique or something crazy. :D

I have fished a worm similiar.but different.

I use a floating worm, light hook and instead of a bullet wieght, I have used one of those bullet shape 'floaters" (not sure what they are called).

I also turn the concave part out, and now have a TOP WATER bait with a "popper" type front.

It works

Interesting. So your style is for top water use.
I never tried that before, but I'll now.

Oh do you use a bead in front to protect the knot a little, or you dont really have a problem with that.

If you're asking me, never had problems but I can see where
you're coming from. Some bullet weights are sharp the one end.
Doesn't hurt to put a bead there.

What type of bullet weights do u use? I use Ultra Steel, because they
are very high quality. I haven't found any of those sharp edges that cut
line. What do u guys use?

Never thought about it, but it´s worth trying, giving a different presentation many times pays off. As for what sinkers I use, the regular polluting ol´ lead ones, I still have to manage on loosing a BIG bunch that sit in my tackle box.

I almost always use these --BPS LINK-- sinkers/weights. They will make a difference----in a good way.

hmmm. Florida sinkers. Heard of the techniche never tried it.
do you just rig them like regular bullet weights. looks like they rattle.
Do you find that effective? I only use rattles with my zoom tubes during
tough conditions.
