What are your favorite methods and lures for fall fishing? I normally don’t do real well in the fall. My two favorite lakes both have shad.

Early fall while slop is still around a bit I love frog fishing still. Other then that, crankbaits, paddletails on a swimjig head and chatterbaits

I target large smallmouth in the fall. Moving baits are king. They attack so aggressive, contact baits would be wasting time. They often school up as well.

I also try to search for good size LMB so I often use either chatterbait or Zoom Magnum Fluke.

Hydrilla is usually just starting to die back during this time of year, so frogs are thrown a lot. Hard jerkbaits and spinnerbaits on edges of flats also work well. Fall is a fun time to fish as the Shad are in a major migration, and pretty much everything in your box will work in the right scenario.

Dittos X2.

I would add swimbaits and low profile spinners too

have that shad problem too, in the fall the lake is stiff with young shad and the predators just have to swim around with their mouths open.. then loaf around the rest of the day watching my baits pass them by.
haven't solved the problem yet..

after the water drops below 40 for a while the shad will die off, sometimes can get some fishing after that..
