Pyramid Lake, California....Help!

Hey fellas,
I'm pretty new to California, just moved to L.A last year. I recently joined a club as a co-angler and fished a tourney on Pyramid a few weeks ago. Before moving from Illinois I always fished as a boater (sold my boat when I left), so, the whole experience was new. Needless to say I didn't do amazing. My partner and I (we partner with a different boater each contest) caught four keepers. One of those was mine and the only fish I got in the day. Any help regarding techniques, colors, patterns that are generally effective on Pyramid and the surrounding lakes (Piru, Castaic) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.
