For those of you who throw a 7 ft rod for topwater, do you put all your fingers in front of the trigger to shorter the rod (to make working the bait a little easier)?

I use 3 in front, but don't think it would make much difference. You don't HAVE to work it tip dow. I normally work a topwater or jerkbait while wading and have no choice but to work it to the side or tip up. Jerkbaits also have a better side to side action when the rod is worked to the side. I usually use an 842 NRX for this, and have no problems out of my boat or kayak.

I am a "side walker" as well. My tip is pointed to the water but off to the side, not straight down.
