Top summer time tactics
Top summer time tactics
Being that it's 95 outside today it gets me wondering what people's best summer tactics were. I've always been most successful with t-rigged plastics in weeds or other cover but want to broaden my horizon. What other tactics have worked for you guys during the dog days of summer?

Early morning top water. Weightless worm around grass, weeds, Lilly pads. Follow the fry. If all else fails Flip.

Twilight to night time fishing. I start with poppers to walking spooks. Usually smallest is better. Then sometimes that inline spinner gets some of them to bite. Usually a number 4 or 5 mepps will do it. If I have to fish really tight to the Lilly pads, I will use the good old Johnson silver minnow or that old Rapala minnow spoon.

Topwater morning/evening. T-Rig on outside weedlines, Senkos on laydowns, c-rig, football, dropshot, cranks on points.

In my neck of the woods it's buzzbait early or t-rigged beavers/brush hogs on the cleaner lakes. Most of our lakes get pretty weedy and then I turn to Froggin/Punchin all day long and I love it! When I go north for smallies it's drop shot time with morning dawn being my color of choice.

Night time , Top or Deep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDeGxmV ... e=youtu.be But really a ton of things can work at night. Just like day. It's just better to get out at night in cooler air and out of the scorching sun. We hit to many days here over 100 degrees and day time is just to much. I go from sundown to sun up most trips.

I go straight to the grass. Frog, flip, and punch. But here on Erie the points outside of the marinas hold the most fish, I just seem to have the better size in the grass.

Good read. I fish a local lake and I still haven't really figured summer time fish yet. I don't wake up early enough i'm guessing.

Prefer the night bite in the middle of summer. Big baits are the name of the game. Catch them from 1-5 lbs.

My go to summer pattern:
fish grass. The thicker the better. The more water depth the better. Lob heavy jigs or t-riggs into it. 3/4 to 1oz. Throw top waters at the same grass morning and late evening.
Football jigs deep, and blade baits deep or off rock points tapering into deeper water with current.

Re: Top summer time tactics
I stay punching like Pacquiao and use jigs in lakes with no punch-able cover.
