Well deep to me is 40 ft and deeper so I go vertical. Sometimes dropping a big football jig down but the most effective by far is a jigging spoon. 52 and 54 are the deepest I've caught them this winter. 3/4 up to 2oz are my favorites.

Dropshot works really well with deep water, I mean 20' deep.

I haven't lost any fish briniging them up from that deep so far. My average depth getting them on spoons is around 44 ft.

When fishing deeper water, what equipment does everyone use ?

Do you go lighter line to try and cut down on the movement caused by line resistance ? What's everyone's preferred Football Head ? With the jig, do you generally use a darker color than you would when fished shallower ?

typically like black/blue when fishing deep 5/8-3/4 so that the jig will stay down. like to stroke it as opposed to dragging but will drag if the situation calls for it. also like to drop shot

line size 16lb+

When going with a football head in deep water, is tungsten better because it's smaller or does a bigger sized head help with feeling the bottom ?

Mathew,

Tungsten is always better, it is smaller, and this is why it is more sensitive.
I always use tungsten when I fish from the boat or kayak.
