finesse techniques
What is your definition of finesse fishing? It seems like a lot of people have different ideas about this. Also what are your favorite techniques and when do you use them?
Re: finesse techniques
i consider wacky, shakey, ds, 1/4oz or below trig/jig presentations all to be in the finesse category
my favorite is prob the wacky and rest is pretty much the same...just depends on condition and what the fishies wanna eat that day

4-8 lb test fluorocarbon dropshotting, wacky rigs, and darter heads.
Re: finesse techniques
My personal favorite is a 1/16 oz. Bull Shot 12 inches above a 1/0 red thin Gammy with a 4" Zoom Finesse Worm. Fish it slow...stay ready.

Re: finesse techniques
This has been debated in the past. I'm in the group (small one) that believes "Finesse" (Noun or Verb) defines the way a bait is presented and worked rather than the size of the bait. So, I believe you can finesse a 6 inch worm or a 1/2 ounce jig and power fish a 1/32 ounce spinner.masterbass wrote:What is your definition of finesse fishing? We've come to associate the light line and small baits with finesse fishing because we generally present these baits very carefully and tend to work them slower and more deliberately. We ignore the fact that we do the same with larger baits to but rather lump their use into the category as throwing 1/2 crankbaits, buzz-baits or spinner-baits.
Something to think about, just my take on this whole fishing fad.

Hand-lining 6lb mono with salmon hook tipped with crawlers/grasshoppers/crickets/earwigs for creek chub (to use as bait for bass). That's how I did it as a kid...
Ain't no more finesse than "fishing for minnows"...

I like your take USA-RET. I agree with finesse being more presentation oriented rather than lure specific.

We used to fish for gizzard shad. Very tiny gold hooks with balled up white bread.dragon1 wrote:Hand-lining 6lb mono with salmon hook tipped with crawlers/grasshoppers/crickets/earwigs for creek chub (to use as bait for bass). That's how I did it as a kid...

Re: finesse techniques
What about ice fishing? Microscopic-like jigs tipped with a tiny wax worm fished very slow and methodical, twitching your lure in the same spot for minutes on end. Hell literally freezes over fishing a hole.
