How to walk a frog and what frog walks the best?

Is there any other species?

Jackall Gavacho frog has the best hookup ratio for me. Checkout the bend on the hooks. The only frog I throw straight out the package without modification. I used to throw spros a lot but these are money.

Walking a frog is difficult at first because we're all used to walking a spook, but how I would explain it to people is that it's a finesse technique. Very small and light movements of the rod tip is what's needed, not snaps like how most people would walk a spook. Give that a try if you're still having problems.

Short rod (6'6" - 7'0") is the key. Most of the folks have 7'4" and higher for frogs.
All my topwater rods are 7'0" or under.

Teal101 wrote:Snap the rod back and forth and maintain slack. If the frog is just popping forward you do not have enough slack in the line in my experience. The spook walks easier with less slack. It took me a few days of constant practice to get my reeling rhythm, rod rhythm, and proper slack right. I can almost walk the Koppers in place now.

Easiest walking for me has been the Koppers frogs. Spro aint bad either.

Setup is Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch, TD-Ito 103HL 7:1 conversion, 60lb Sunline FX2.
I cosign on the red highlight.

Need enough slack to walk, and if its a hollow body frog;I make sure all the water is out internally in the frog before each cast. Koppers walks the best, imo.

Cabin Fever gets lots of old threads brought to the top. At least this is good information at any time. The threads asking about rods or reels no longer in production....that get brought to the top years later....doesn't do much good for anybody.

I’m just starting to fish with a frog and this thread has been very helpful.
