Tired of Getting Cut
Tired of Getting Cut
On one particular setup I continually to cut my hand with braid IN THE SAME SPOT.
Does anyone else have this issue?

How did you cut your hand in the same spot? On the hookset, pulling a snag, on a cast or while fighting a fish?
Re: Tired of Getting Cut
I'm going to guess while tightening his knot, in the groove of the first joint of his right index finger..?? Did I guess right?...because I've been there, done that.

Re: Tired of Getting Cut
I try to program my mind when holding this rod to set the hook differently
but when i set the hook ....slice. Steve1206 you are correct that is the same
spot. I used electrical tape last time after the cut. I think it is because the reel
sits higher on this particular rod/reel combo and thus I put that finger in harms
way.

Re: Tired of Getting Cut
Finger bandage/tape or a glove may help, otherwise the only thing I can think of is placing your finger under the reel seat/blank before you set the hook?
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Tired of Getting Cut
get a set of mechanics gloves .... keep a full glove. or cut one of the fingers off and just use the finger... on the finger that gets cut... lose a bit of feel for the rod and light pick-ups but i like to use-em on cold days / nights .... you can pick-em up at just about any major auto part stores .... or another option is getting a stripping guard for fly fishing you can get some on orvis.com in tools and accessories section they are 6.50 and you wont have to use or wreck a pair of 20.00 gloves. hope this helps

Re: Tired of Getting Cut
I posted this photo on this site several years ago. Since switching to braid a decade ago, I have had to learn to not let the line run over my index finger on the retrieve. I used this technique for years to enhance feel on the retrieve. I have been fairly successful, for I only cut my finger once a year or so.

Re: Tired of Getting Cut
I used to have that problem until I started coating the joint of my left index finger with crazy glue before I fish.

Use tape or glue. Kirk Hammett and flea style.

There ya go...if you build up enough callus and toughness, then you will just "play until your fingers bleed" like SRV!Nytron wrote:Use tape or glue. Kirk Hammett and flea style.
