What are your go to Brands?
What are your go to Brands?
Are sebiles, strike pro, expensive rapalas worth it?
Re: What are your go to Brands?
I've recently turned to JDM tackle to fish the lakes near where I live because here in So Cal, most bass have seen everything from worms to GIANT GIANT swimbaits. So, I get lures that no one else is using and use it. So far the results are magnificent. Sometimes, the bass just can't get enough of a certain new lure or technique and you could catch dozens of bass. However, I still stick to some tried and true brands such as Rapala. I love the countdown series, as well as their x-rap jerkbaits and dive-to crankbaits. Another company is BOOYAH. I really only use one lure from them, but it's my go to bait when nothing else seems to work. That is their spinnerbait. The bass always seem to love it and the bites are pretty vicious on it, so I never get tired of catching them . Anyways, you should experiment and see for yourself. Sometimes, lures are expensive and it translates into great construction and good quality control as opposed to cheaper lures. However, this isn't always true. Well, hope that gives you some ideas.

All JDM for me. Last time I bought a lure from a local tackle store was....a long time ago......don't remember.
I like to use what the next person isn't using.....you can gaurentee that Rapala's are #1 for the most common lures everywhere.

I can't remember where I read this but I seem to recall that there was some study with captive bass which showed that the orginal rapala was the only bait tested that the bass didn't get conditioned to. Something tells me that the Senko may also be one of those baits.

I agree! I've also turned to JDM tackle and stay away from what local retailers offer. Also I've been throwing swimbaits (3:16 of course) here for a month or so with success. I've gotten two of my fishing buddies hooked on swimbaits.beezy wrote:I've recently turned to JDM tackle ....
I always get asked: "Are you fishing for pikes & muskies?"
I respond with: "Nope, bass!"
Then I get a weird look, you know the look of (pfft, that's too big for bass)
GREAT! Hope ppl never throw swimbaits here, more for me!

I have some rapala's
I fish a jig alot, and use a custom manufacturer due to quality
I use a few keitech products, there "newer" than what most fish have seen
i buy a lot of bass pro, mostly plastics.

if they don't get too picky eating it, i don't get too picky throwing it.
that said, there seems to be a glut of zoom/yamamoto/rapala/lc/megabass in the panic box.

Lucky Craft.... Theres just something about them
Re: What are your go to Brands?
I think the bass do get conditioned to senkos because I fish a pond by my house and when I started fishing it with senko i had 10-15 bites everytime I went out and lately it is 1-3.. SO they are learning.

If I remember correctly, I believe that it was the Black and Silver floating minnow.johnnybass wrote:I can't remember where I read this but I seem to recall that there was some study with captive bass which showed that the orginal rapala was the only bait tested that the bass didn't get conditioned to. In regards to my go to brands, I can't imagine being without Lucky Craft. I use loads of Rapala's as well. Even though fish may be conditioned to certain lures on various waters, there are always ways to modify that crank bait that everyone else is using to give yourself an edge... That's where all that cool, JDM lure modification stuff comes into play for me.
Even a Senko can be fished so many ways, and modified constantly to give the bass something different to look at.
I try to avoid running out and buying the newest and most expensive bait, the quality is often there, but IMO it does not always equal to more bass in the boat for me. On the other hand, how often I am able to show restraint is a different story.
