Re: How to SKIP using a baitcaster?
I love this video, I've been watching this video for a few time during the summer.

Did they use the Magforce V braking system?flippinfool wrote:The old black td's are still the best reel for this. Set the side magnet control all the way up to '10'.

Re: How to SKIP using a baitcaster?
Practice, practice, practice.
I have been skipping a lot over the past several weeks, having tried on and off for the last year or so with mixed results. It's kinda like driving a boat that chine walks, it's really hard to tell someone how to do it to do it properly but once you get it, it seems easy.
I watched videos and read different posts and the biggest thing that helped me get better was a post that mentioned a 15 degree angle to the water for the trajectory. Being an engineer, that seemed to put things in perspective. The ability to skip has really added another dimension for me and over the last several weekends I have caught several fish that I would not have caught without the capability to skip.
As for the rig I have been using most, a zillion 7 foot M extra fast, with a T3 reel with a megabass IS spool. This combo is killer for skipping. The spool starts super fast but with less mass, and inertia, doesn't back lash easily. I have been mainly using very light 7 pound sunline and 3/16 or 1/4 ounce shakey head with a Texas rigged 5 inch hula grub. The water here is very clear and the light line gets more bites. I have also successfully used a Steez 7'1 rod with a Steez reel with heavier sunline for skipping jigs.
The bottom line is don't get discouraged and keep at it. It will come.

If he is referring to the old black TD-S reels, then yes it is Magforce V braking.Bronzeye wrote:Did they use the Magforce V braking system?flippinfool wrote:The old black td's are still the best reel for this. Set the side magnet control all the way up to '10'.
