Very insightful.panda_slicks86 wrote:just remember fishing lures are designed first and foremost to catch a fisherman its second job is hopefully catch fish and as far as color go's i pretty much just stick to certain 4-5 colors at most, for everything... plastics / cranks / topwater ect....... action trumps color 90% of the time on most waters. just my opinion tho.... guess i dont want to be stuck with bait colors that dont produce.
In gin clear water like I'm used to fishing, a black topwater bait during the day would produce a very awkward silhouette, IMHO.
Re: Black topwaters?

You can get the MS Black color stateside on a couple of Lucky Crafts, including the Sammy and Live Sammy, Kelly J prop bait, T-Splash, G-Splash, and Gunfish...

Re: Black topwaters?
This post really got me thinking. Out on the California Delta 90% of the guys are throwing the same shad pattern rip baits, shad and craw crankbaits, etc. Now you could argue that they are just matching the hatch and those baits produce consistently (and they do), but there are days when I can't buy a bite out there and maybe giving giving them a look at something different would pay off. Anyway as the op said there aren't many choices in a blacl topwater, but I just ordered a couple of super spooks in black and will try them next time.

Anyone in northern California interested in an experiment I have put together 2 large trays 1 all black 1 all white. So who wants to go fish them? I'm in Grass Valley just north of Sacramento.

Exactly. Unless a person is fishing really slow or with finicky fish, I feel that it's the shade that matters and not the color so much.
Hard lake to fish? You think? Where do you live? That's where i fishpanda_slicks86 wrote:i fish cachuma where its pretty clear unless the winds kickin ........ hard lake to fish
