Best rod size

What does everyone think the best all-around bass rod is? Action, power, length, etc.

I don't know what's best, but I've bought and will continue to buy more 7' MH than any other size.

I think that kind of depends on how tall you are.

I think a 6'6" or 7" would be the most common size for all around use.

Medium or Medium heavy would be the most common power

Fast would be the most prefered action (You usually don't get a genuine "fast" action unless you go with a quality rod maker and a little more expensive rod)

For me, a Fig Rig 6'6" medium fast action is my most versitile rod. I don't think there is any application that rod could not handle in a pinch except for working in the heaviest of slop where you need sheer brute strength to land the fish.

I'd go with 6'6 MH power, fast action.
7' is nice, but you're asking for an all around rod.
To me, 7' is too long for topwater use.
I can still flip and pitch with a 6'6.

I prefer a 6'9" medium heavy rod for an all around stick. I fish custom sticks primarily but there are many manufacturers now offering rods in this length with a medium heavy rating.

6-6 MH. Not much you can't do with that length and action.

I have heard people favor 5'6 up to 7'6. I am most comfortable with 6'6. Your best bet is to pick up the different length rods and see what fits you best.

You will have to go to local store and get the feel of the different lengths. I like my 7'ers but it took a long time for me to get a real good feel for them. I am 5'8" and the 6'6" seems to be a rod that I can pick up and instantly feel good about. Medium to Medium Heavy are my favorites.

i'm guessing you're referring to casting rods. my preference in length is still the 6 1/2' though in my basement is just about every length and action ever made. sometimes i go down there and shake my head wondering why i bought some of those rods. a few were only used once or twice. i think it also depends on what kind of lures you prefer. everybody knows there's no universal bass fishing rod. if you like jigs or plastics, go with a MH power fast tip rod, if you like fishing with plugs, go with a M power med-fast action. i know someone asked me once, if I could have only one rod to fish with for the rest of my life what would it be? i still think 6 1/2' MH power, fast action. there may not be one rod that can do it all, but that length and action comes pretty close. happy holidays and good fishing

I was referring to baitcasters. In spinning, I still have all MHs only in 6'6". Rod action on my baitcasters always seems to be fast.

If I could have only one rod in the boat, it would be a fast 6'6" MH casting rod. It'll flip, spin, jig, TR, CR, crank, drift and still-fish for whatever freshwater fish you like. You will start to wish it would skew it's performance toward other extremes to tailor itself to better handle the bait you have on the end of your line or the particular style of fishing you are doing, but you will never be excluded from any type of fishing with it.

My favorite if I had to pick just one rod for all my baitcasting would be a 6'6" MH rod.

6'9" and 7' are rapidly becoming my choice application specific rods though.

6'9" is getting to be real popular.
