8pounder?
Oh do I wish! Nah, I think it's a male.
This fish is long, but I didn't measure the length.
I did meaure the weight. It came out to be
3.75 pounds only. Nothing to brag about. :D

:!: Show your 4th of July catches. I am going out this
weekend for sure!

Haha. I guess looks can be deceiving. I caught a nice five pounder this year, but I didn't get a pic. By the way, what's your bucketmouth ever?

Largest I caught was just last year. 6.2pounder.
Didn't have a digital camera at that time, so
I didn't take the pic of any fish I caught before.
Caught it on workiing plastics on the bottom around
structure.

I would have guessed 3-4 pounds, it seems that larger bass almost always go for the plastics before anything else, my belief is that the bigger they get, the lazier they get so they look for an easy meal. I know this does not apply to everything, but i find this true in the late summer in the north east. My personal best even though not a whopper was 5 pounds, 6 ounces caught on a jitterbug at six thirty in the morning, it came up three times to hit it and hit it on the fourth. This is because i just kept a steady retrieve and did not set the hook until i felt it on the line.

That's pretty intense, catching your biggest bass on a Jitterbug! Top water bites from big bass give me a heart attack, I love it. Could you tell how big it was from the first few hits, or not until you had it hooked?

I really haven't caught too many big bass on the top water come to think of it, most of mine have come on the plastics. I have caught a ton of hefty smallies on spinner baits and jerk baits though.

The first and second time no, but the third time, it came about a foot out of the water. i think what saved me from setting the hook right away was that i was in awe. I could not move. Then i just reeled up on it and gave a little tug. i was fishing an old barge canal, it is a really neat place, there are no houses and it is all preserved land. I also do some hunting there. Anyway not to many people fish there, so the water is crystal clear. I saw it dive right down, i was fishing with 6 pound test because i was going between trout and bass fishing. I had to tighten up my drag a couple of times because it was about to go into these arrowhead plants, i have them in my koi pond. by the way it was released without harm, but unfortunately without a picture. I had tacken one but never came out when i went to get my pictures from cosco, i was pissed off. Oh well guess i just have to catch a bigger one and with a digital camera.
