Rapala Skitter walk
I tried using a skitter walk today and I know I'm doing something wrong. I'd cast it out, let it sit and try to retrieve, but my line kept getting tangled w/ the front hook. Then every so often, the bait would flip and get tangled backwards. Is it b/c I'm jerking too hard, or does me using a fluro coated line have something to w/ it? I'm thinking a lil of both. Comments/suggestions are appreciated.

DG... sounds to me you're pulling too hard and/or not turning the reel handle enough to take up enough slack in the line between jerks.dinengurth wrote:I tried using a skitter walk today and I know I'm doing something wrong. DG, I always use mono with my topwater plugs. Berkeley Big-Game is monster cheap for a 1/4lb spool, you can get it at Academy.
The Skitterpop is my fav walk the dog type lure, I fish that one a lot. That is till SD completes my turning to the darkside and gets me to start buying Japanese lures too.

Like other said, use mono, a line that floats is good.
Sinking line for topwater is not desired.

Yeah I read about using mono for topwater b/c it doesn't sink too fast, but all I had on spool was floroclear. Now I know, have to buy a couple more rigs for specific lures .

Re: Rapala Skitter walk
I use the Skitter Walk also. I fun it just like a Pop-R. You defiently want to reel up slack as you jerk it.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.
Re: Rapala Skitter walk
There's probably not enough stretch in the flourocarbon lines.
Try tying on a mono leader about 5 feet or so, or try a softer
action rod.

I find the skitterwalk much harder to walk the dog with at slow speeds, i prefer the excaliber spit n image one of the best ones on the market besides the sammy
