Re: Original Lews Speed Spool - Help
Good Luck. Parts for the old BB1N models are impossible to come by. You need new anti-reverse dogs. They used to be about 2.80 each. Google Delaware Valley Tackle. I heard very good reviews about his work and shop. That's where I would start. I have 5 of the old Lews. Best reel ever built.

Re: Rod of the Year 2012
That's easy. Dobyns Extreme DX742SF. I had that rod with me every trip out. It was my drop shot rod at Clear Lake, Hula Grub rod at Riffe and shaky head rod at Pot Holes. It's the best rod, spinning or casting, iv'e ever fished.

Re: dobyns chamion vs. extreme...worth the xtra $$?
The answer is yes....and no. As mentioned, for contact techniques where "feel" sensitivty is critical, the investment is worth it. Outside of that, Champion series rods are top quality and exceptional performers. My Extremes are for dropshot/tubes/shakey head and jigs/plastics, generally fished deep...

Re: Topwater rod help.
I use a Savvy 733 micro for spooks and super spooks. For everything else ( lighter ) the Champion 704CB. The 704CB triples as my JB rod and lighter crankbait rod.

I had two of the original LEWS BB1's made by Shimano. I sold them to upgrade to the BB1N's which I still have five of. I wish i'd never sold them.

Re: Favorite jig rod for 1/2 to 1oz
Dwight,
Take a look at Dobyns' Extreme DX745C. It still has some tip for a 5 power but has the back bone to move fish. I throw Rago BVD's with this rod too. The Champion 735C is less expensive and also worth looking at.

Re: Drop shot rod recommendation
I agree with civicrr on the Dobyns DX models. I prefer the DX742SF and this rod covers other techniques beyond dropshots. It's my go to spinning rod for tubes, hula grubs and shaky heads too. Great rod all around.
