Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
Depending on how you work your jig heads, you may be able to leverage Caro rigs that Japanese use for mackerel fishing from long distances. I've used them for their intended purposes and they work quite well with lift and fall presentations. Haven't tried with a baitcaster though. ras, I'm glad you...

Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
Buy yourself the cheapest topwater lure like anything like a Spook puppy or Torpedo and remove all hardware and/or props. They make for the best casting bobbers and you can even play walk the dog, although it really wouldn't do much for that lure. yes if you really wanted to just use a spook and sl...

Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
Knotty, I bought some of these last year in the smallest size: https://www.fishusa.com/Bill-Lewis-Rocket-Bobbers They facilitate casting a light jig a long way, as they are made of plastic. A single spring-loaded clip makes them easy to attach to your line. The problem with round plastic bobbers of...

Re: Broken rods :-/
The larger rod is for rivers like the San Juan and Conejos where it’s wide open and holds big fish. On an impulse I bought a Tsurinoya Ajing Elf light, 8’. I want to be sure I like the style before I drop more money on a high end rod. Going to out an Daiwa BG 2000 on it. Can’t wait for it to get he...

Re: Broken rods :-/
Great story. Having been a teenage boy (oh so many years ago) I can confirm the dumb as rocks statement.
Perhaps a Major Craft for yourself and some Ugly Stiks for the teens. Personally I’d go shorter than 7’ for bank fishing unless you don’t have a lot of dense brush like I do here in the east.

Re: Looking for tips regarding a landing net for UL fishing
No recommendation, just make sure it's a plastic (silicone, rubber, etc.) net where barbs won't get stuck, like Bronzeye noted. Even with a pinched barb I recently ended up damaging a nice little brown when the hook got caught in the net material. Learn from my misfortune. Have spent too much time t...

Re: Perch, perch, perch!
Tips appreciated. Still waiting on safe ice here in NJ. We're at that annoying stage where all the water is frozen but not enough to ice fish. That stage is often the whole winter.BRONZEBACK32 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:00 pmBig perch are one of my go to fish during ice fishing season.

Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
Appreciate the responses. Some suggestions are too heavy for the rods I'll be using but still worth looking into.
Hope to get back with comments and questions once I've had more time to digest the info.

Amazing and that settles it...I'm going to drive to south Jersey to catch some fish. Too much ice and too little biting up by me.

Re: BFS: Ares vs. 6 other rods
Got out twice more with the Ares. Only 1 wild brown on a Lucky Craft Stream Drive 35HD 3.1 g pencil. But this rod is everything I was hoping for when I got intrigued by BFS. Of course "true" BFS is bass focused and uses heavier lures than I'm typically throwing on these outings, but this type of fis...

Re: BFS Bobber Help Needed
Thanks guys. I'm familiar with slip and casting bubbles but there are some issues. First, I get lazy and just want to quickly attach a float at the length needed. With both bubble and bobber you have to take off the hook tto rig the floats. Second, when the float isn't fixed (slip bobber), anything ...

BFS Bobber Help Needed
I'm having trouble casting light jig heads under bobbers (indicator, float, choose the word you like) with BFS. The two items of mass on the line don't load the rod or fly with an even pull on the line, causing birds nests. At least that's what I think is happening. In particular I'd like to be able...

Re: BFS: Ares vs. 6 other rods
Here's another digital composite of the 3 rods that offers an interesting perspective on their bends. It's clear the Ares bends deeper into the blank than the others. Like previously mentioned, I'm surprised by how fast the Teton is when most other Tetons are known for being slow. Top to bottom: CU ...

Re: BFS: Ares vs. 6 other rods
...Knotty, wait until you use an aftermarket spool and bearings :big grin: . The "tip" being solid carbon I think they meant the non-handle piece (like the blank part of the 2-piece / insert blank into handle part Megabass rods). I have the Avail spool, lined with some 4# .165 mm Sunline Troutist W...
