slipperybob, thanks especially for sharing all that diameter and strength data. That's a lot of careful typing!

Re: Daiwa Tournament SS Reel
If it's any consolation, the thump of an off-balance rotor does have one virtue: it can make it easier to remember the speed at which you were retrieving a lure (e.g., an inline spinner) when a fish hit, so you can replicate that speed on your next cast. Sometimes speed is a critical factor in prese...

Re: Line types…if you could only have one
Freddie, perhaps you should clarify whether someone voting for braid could use other materials (nylon mono or fluorocarbon) for a leader.
If so, that would be my choice (though I currently have mono on at least three times as many spools as either braid or fluorocarbon).

Re: Floating line through trout?
I don't have the experience to tell you how to fish this bait, but I have the imagination to make a suggestion. If you fish that bait on a lake that has big bass that feed on trout, look for an open campground, then for a stretch of shore near it that would likely be used by casual anglers fishing w...

Re: Vintage Hardbait Collection
Looks like an Arbogast AC Plug in the bottom row (4th from right). That was the first big swimbait I read about being used for big bass. I bought a couple, though they were obscenely expensive at the time ($16?). I only fished them a total of about an hour and a half; there were few bass over 6 lbs....

Re: Damyl Tectan
I knew decades ago that Tectan had unusually high break strength for its diameter, but never read of it being abrasion resistant (and don't recall claims by the manufacturer to that effect). May I ask what experiences you have had with it that have led you to attribute that property to it?

Re: 2 lbs mono/fluoro on size 500 vs size 1000/2000.
Ultralight, thanks for the quick reply. What is the ring diameter of the base guide ("stripper") on their rods? It is interesting to read that they feel they are getting more distance with the smaller spool diameter of the 500 even though they are using tall guide frames. That makes me suspect that ...

Re: Which State would you choose?
I've always been keen on the idea of Minnesota. Strictly for fishing purposes. I used to live there, and loved the variety of water types and species. Some drawbacks to consider: If you aren't an ice fisherman, the season is short. In central Minnesota, ice-out can be as late as the end of April, a...
