Re: help me choose the spinning reel

I haven't used the quantum, but I can tell you the plungers are disappointing. Everything looks great on paper and feels good in hand, but somewhere in the execution, they just don't work as well and Shimano's or Daiwa's. I feel like Shimanos have the fewest line issues, but the Daiwa's are smoother...

Re: Using Loops on Jerkbaits -- when necessary??

Ok, I'm sold. I'm trying to balance small, but not to small. Have you tried the size 0? I use 15lb braid, so at 25lb strength they are plenty strong enough for me. Just want to be sure they aren't to small to be practical.

Re: Using Loops on Jerkbaits -- when necessary??

I just found them on amazon, shipping from japan. Expensive for a snap, but I'll get them a try. One question: isn't a round bend more desirable for the bait end of a snap?

I love snaps and I'm always looking for a better one. I'll check out the Decoy W Snap. I was just curious about the loop knot as it seems very popular with inshore guys. Even ones who can afford quality snaps and split rings.

Re: Lightest braid for Daiwa PX-R

I've seen the break tests and even did my own. The Smackdown is not good for 1oz over 15lbs., while most 15lb braids are testing at 25-30lbs. Point of the post is is that braid that thin is castable and you can get a full 150yds on the spool. Next time I will probably jump to the 20lb as it will ser...

Re: Lightest braid for Daiwa PX-R

Update: 150yds of Smackdown fits on the PXR with no problem. I bet you could fit 150yds of the 20b.

Reel casts like a dream. Caught 2 browns and two smallmouth tonight throwing a 3/16 oz shad rap. I'm new to a baitcaster and backlash aren't an issue.

Here's a question. Split ring or not, why not use a loop knot?

Re: what's everyone's most productive lure?

For smallmouth, the Little John MD 50 is awesome. Casts mile with a tungsten weight transfer system, rattles but not loud (weight is coated with rubber). If there are fish around, the will bite.

I see no difference in catch rate using just braid.

I would be careful with fly line for backing. It is so soft, I worry you would dig into it.

I've got to try one of those Fenwicks, fro what everyone writes, it would seem they compare to loomis in terms of weight and sensitivity.

Re: Ultralight rod under $125

Do you really think the Trulinoya is what it claims? It always seems the chicness direct stuff is too good to be true and usually is. Like the net I bought. Great an innovative in everyway...except the soft plastic neck that won't support a bluegill.
