You don't want to use the same pound test as your braid unless you're using light braid.

My typical setup is 50lb braid with 12lb fluoro leader. 50lb braid is the same thickness as 12lb fluoro or mono.

Re: Chatterbait rod / Spinnerbait rod?

I don't fish for comfort, I fish for results. I use a 4 power Dobyns because of the cover I fish and the thick single hook. Yeah, I get more thump in the retrieve, but I'd rather get a sure hookset. Not to say the 3 power wouldn't work, you guys have proved it does, but 4 power makes me feel better....

Re: favorite baits to texas rig

What crankbait do you use for that technique? I always seem to get hung up on something with all those treble hooks :x Start off learning to crank under 5' so you can get your cranks back until you get the feel. KVD 1.5s work good and I love BDS 3 and the SKT MR and DR cranks for this, they both ha...

Re: Drop shot set up help

I'm gonna go against the grain and recommend a Symetre or if you have to have a Stradic, go with the FJ. Yes, they are heavier reels but they balance out the rod much better than the Ci4. On the DX702SF it's a nearly perfectly balanced setup. If you can, try them out at the store and you'll see what...

Nice fish and great looking cover. Looks like it was a blast.

Did you catch anything in/near that shack?

Re: Phenix x10 or Dobyns champ 704cb glass

For a general purpose cranking stick you can't go wrong with a 705CB Glass. Don't be fooled by the 5 power. Though the butt section is strong, the glass in the tip allows you to sling baits out there. The 704 glass, while lighter, will limit you on the heavier baits.

Re: Becoming a better fisherman?

Time on the water. There's no substitute for figuring out structure, where the fish are at what parts of the day, how they position themselves on/around cover, etc.

That's how guys can come to a stretch of water and have a good idea about what's going to work.

Re: t-rig rod

I think so. The only drawback would be working the bait too fast and maybe getting the rod tip caught up in trees (if shore fishing) or hitting the water (with tip down retrieves).

The benefits outweigh the drawbacks, IMO. I particularly like the ability to make further casts with the longer rods.

Re: Prevent Braid Digging In On Baitcast Reel ?

I use 50+lb power pro and only ever have digging issues when I get a backlash. Under normal casting/retrieving I find that the line goes on the spool with sufficient tension to keep from digging.

Re: handle length by technique?

I agree with a handle length being too long can get in the way.

What do you think the ideal frog rod handle length should be?

Personally, I don't want it too long so I'm still able to walk the dog.

I don't really use the handle as leverage for hooksets, so can't help you there.

Re: favorite baits to texas rig

I t-rig more creature baits than worms. Brush hogs, lizards, and space monkey are my favorites. Some times craws. All weighted.

If going weightless I'll throw a senko in 4" to 7", depending on the water I'm on.

Yep, any one of the 3 powers in any of the series will do you right with the weight ranges you mentioned.

Great choice in brands, btw!
