Re: Help choosing mid to high end, compact reel
Personal preference - Much easier to get a nice drag free drift thumbing the spool versus having to use a second hand to open and close the bail.

Re: Help choosing mid to high end, compact reel
Die hard steelheader here as well! I have everything from 5 different versions of the Tatula to a Shimano Bantam mgl. Although I most commonly use 1/4 to 1/2 oz for float fishing I prefer any reel with an aluminum body. The new Zillion SV is my current favorite and comes from the factory with drag c...

Re: Help me choose a new reel!
How far do you cast and what exactly do you do when steelhead fishing? To be fair I know nothing about it and all my reel experience is lighter line river fishing in the out lying Ozark regions... [/quote] Cast is anywhere from 20' to 100'+ and either letting a bobber/jig ride the current down strea...

Help me choose a new reel!
Looking for a new reel for 22! Diehard steelhead fisherman throwing 1/2 oz bobber/jig and 2/5 oz spoon using 20# braid with mono bumper. Love the bantam mgl and Morethan that i currently have over the various tats due to smoothness/solid feel. Price is not an issue- Looking into Steez A HLC, Antares...

Re: Floating braid?
I don’t think it’s as durable as Ultra 8 Carrier, but Sunline Asgai Xplasma freezes a bit less than Ultra 8. Might float a little better. Definitely tip wraps/wind knots more. They don’t make high vis green in 30lb+. Biggest thing for me is less freezing here in the GL’s. Not as important for you i...

Floating braid?
Here in PNW where we do a lot of float fishing for steel head and salmon having a good floating line is paramount to ease of a good presentation. I have tried several in my limited experience with mixed results- Nanofil is great but gets fuzzy if you look at or contact anything abrasive Powerpro is ...

Re: Fireline Ultra on BCs?
I use fireline ultra 8 on at least a dozen casting reels from 8# for trout to 30# for salmon. Great line and I have never had any problems with it. Yes it is extremely wiry at first but softens after extended use. I need to see the line for most presentations and the Crystal is very easy to see.
