Re: Favorite worm hook for -

The Rebarb is a great hook, and there are several finesse hooks with keepers available these days from all the major manufacturers. That said, I pretty much always use a 1/0 offset worm hook (not round bend) with regular wire. My favorite were Daiichi because they have great points, small barbs, and...

Tokyo rig question...

I've spent a little time with the Tokyo rig, mostly in local ponds where the bottom is muck, and it shines there because the bait is slightly elevated. But I'm curious about one specific aspect of the rig: why the swivel at the line tie? I understand that it's kind of a hardwired dropshot, and drops...

Re: Line on a spinning reel

You've mostly gotten the answer to the question you asked, but I’ll chime in. First, yes, a full spool casts better as long as it's not overfilled, in which case, you leave yourself open to line issues. But if you're new to spinning tackle, let me save you a ton of aggravation on the water with a si...

That's a great looking combo, but especially the rod!

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

To give you a suggestion on an available rod, Tackle Warehouse has a 6'7" L Legit Design Wild Side rod in stock. I recently thought about getting it but I went with a shorter Legit Design Wild Side rod. If you go to the Ultralight/BFS Section of Tackle Tour, you can see mine. I started a thread abo...

This one should also be worth considering, if you can find it in stock.

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

Be wary of the Dobyns soild tip BFS rods. I have heard that they take away from the hook setting power when using single hook presentations. I would get Phenix L rod if you want to stay USDM or one of many JDM rods if you don't mind not getting a warranty. Thanks. I'm starting to see a consensus ar...

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

For bass fishing, I use 2 setups because I don’t like using 1 rod for 2 different styles of fishing. I have the Dobyns sierra ultra finesse rod in 0 power for small moving baits like swim baits and cranks. For bottom/contact baits like finesse jigs/drop shot/ned/worms, I use a St. Croix Avid X in m...

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

I have been liking the Cashion Icon BFS 6'10ML. Definitely a "power BFS" rod compared to the Dobyns but, still great for the range of bass you are talking about catching. If going the Dobyns route, I'd lean toward one of the 1 powe Sierra Series. Doesn't have the solid tip. Feels better for bass fi...

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

I do a lot of the same type fishing that you do and I've had quite a few rods tested in the smaller wade river environment. I've run rods from 6' 1" up to 7'2" in length and have powers from UL trout blank up to a ML St. Croix. I agree the ML St. Croix blank (6'10" ML Legend tournament) is not what...

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

Here is a premium that just hit the market. There is alot to say for just going straight to the higher end products. https://www.evergreen-fishing.com/goods_list/Pcsc66lPlus.html I don't believe in buying tackle I'll want to upgrade right away. Don't get me wrong: I don't necessarily *want* to spen...

Re: Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

You didn't mention if you like long or short rods or if you are going to invest in a modern day BFS reel. Thank you for your suggestions and thoughts. I haven't had any issues with a long rod in the waters I fish when using spinning gear (I mostly use the 7’6 Tatula Elite Feider rod), so I'm accust...

Favorite BFS rods and/or blanks?

I'm about to jump in the BFS game, and because I'll do it eventually regardless, I'm seriously considering going right to a high-end or high-end custom rod. I'm also considering the Dobyns SUF700F should I decide to spend less, and I'm certainly open to other reasonably priced suggestions as well, b...

Re: Longer ML spinning rod

The Steez AGS 76MML is magic. It's just one of those rods that has "it" without a doubt. I've been fishing mine every chance I get since I got it last year. I highly recommend this rod as a lighter power option than what you have. We will have more coming soon... I’m afraid you’re going to think I’...

Re: Levante Leviathan for 2-3oz baits?

I think your best bet for swimbaits is 65-80# braid and a 20-30# mono leader to get a little stretch in the system. Tim & Matt at Tactical Bassin typically use Maxima Ultragreen for leader material, and I’d start with a mono/copolymer you know and trust as a leader if you don’t use the Maxima. Just ...
