I believe that you should go for both weight and balance also. But if I had to choose it would be weight. When your rod is light then tip heavy doesn't come down to much of a weighted feel. I use the 6:3 for cranking. It works so well I bought another. I have thrown deep crankbaits up to 1oz and it works beautifully.
The casting distance is excellent. Personally, I love the drag on this reel. It is rock solid.

I agree with jwflipper. I used a MH Helium for 7 yrs for the same types of baits that you are wanting to use. The rod is well worth the money.
