Re: New Steez A II vs High End Shimano’s

I might be in the minority, I turned to prefer smoothness off Daiwa compared to Shimano distance. My last purchased is SLX DC XT70 and every time I use it, I miss smoothness from Zillion and Alphas SV TW. Last decision was to sell brand new CQ100 since I’m not sure how long it would stay smooth. The...

Re: Daiwa Pixy Replacment

If you want to stay with pixy platform but not as light, Alphas air for BFS like Alphas CT SV everything else’s. To replace line guide any Alphas line guide or TDZ should work. You might still be able to order direct from Daiwa for SV105 line guide or ask around in buy-sell section. Other than that ...

Re: New Steez A II vs High End Shimano’s

Imho, if anyone says either one is superior to the other, then they are splitting hairs. There is plenty to like about either brand and it comes down to personal preference. I'm a Daiwa guy, because I like consistent control. This comes at the price of a slightly lessened distance, which Im ok with...

Re: New Steez A II vs High End Shimano’s

The Steez is too wide and uncomfortable in my opinion. I may keep it a while, but I am likely headed back to Shimano… You should really try Steez CT, Zillion SVTW or Alphas SVTW before go back to Shimano. I found the SV reel is a lot easier to control when switching weight from regular to light sup...

Re: New Steez A II vs High End Shimano’s

Daiwa is not gonna win in casting distance some might cast better but overall with regular bass lure Shimano win hand down. As far as comfortable, over the years Shimano produced reel that is a tad more ergonomic and sit a tad lower, narrower making palming the whole reel better compare to Daiwa. Th...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Very impressed with the new KKR Long cast spool for the Daiwa Alphas SV TW. It is much lighter and has a thinner, shorter fixed inductor making it faster than the stock SV shallow spool version. The line capacity is a tad more than the stock shallow spool. I paid $65 and got it in a little over a w...

Re: Alphas AIR TW Spool

I think hobie-wan said he swapped spool between both and see no effect. My concern is about line lay on spool which Gekka is narrower and if worm gear incorporates with width of spool surface. Anyway If you don’t wanna use braid that make me wonder, how much 4-6lb FC would reg air spool hold in real...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Pretty fast shipping from China, when I ordered they scheduled to arrive April 6, then upgraded to 3rd. Today I got the spool in my hand. The spool hold good amount of line, I tried with leftover 12lb sniper about 80 feet and got to only about half of spool. Should be good for 10lb sniper that I ord...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Dang I feel sad now to get Alphas 800s instead of wait for this spool. Maybe I’ll wait until it goes on sale like other spool?

Edit decided to order one in red, I can use this spool on my right hand compare to shallow left.

Re: Open-ended question about reels

I like the smaller body reels especially with these lighter rods. but when i go out i don’t have a boat so sometimes i’m throwing all kinds of stuff on 1 rod and reel. I just want to make sure the smaller CT can handle up to ounce if need be. And the SV can handle a little over 1oz on occasion I’m ...

Re: Open-ended question about reels

So how many reels have you bought so far after all the comments you get? You can also share your opinion of the reels pair with the rods you have.

Re: Is There A Way to Make A Standard Baitcast Spool To A Shallow Spool?

Make me wonder, if those old adapters compare to full braid backing which one is heavier or add more rotational mass to spool? Shallow spool is one thing but BFS spool is supposed to be as light as possible, correct?
