just wondering about seaoned builders thoughts on building
I was thinking about how I enjoy putting a rod together. I build for myself and a very few friends. I've been building since the mid 70's. I've probably not built 50 rods total. I relish the thought of being able to fulfil a need for a particular technique/fish. case in point: I built a friend on th...

Re: Where can you buy Matagi parts?
I don't think mudhole sells matagi components except for their private (Mudhole)label reel seats. no matagi branded components to be found on website. wonder if they might do a special order?

Re: Using Loops on Jerkbaits -- when necessary??
if i'm tying straight to a wire eye, I (almost) always use a loop knot. exception is when there is a split ring in play. that what I learned to do as a youngster. in my mind's eye I could just see that little rapala humping it's tail off because of that loop knot. any success with rapalas/minnow bai...

Re: Rain Gear for Warm Months
I like one of REI's Goretex hooded jackets. recently had a LOT of rain here in NC. kept me dry all of the time. have to say outer shell did get wetted but not me. I did have a another parka-columbia- I used as well. no problems with it, either. REI jacket is very light, has a lot of good features-ad...

Re: What do you guys do with your hard bait box.
may ought to keep 'em, guys. a chapman branded box brought $25,000(twenty five thousand dollars) to some elated ebay seller from a guy with deep pockets in recent years. regularly lure collectors are getting big bucks for boxes in good condition.

Re: Tenkara
I got some tenkara rods off the auction site. they have socks but no hard case. I got on a site I use often out in cheyene wy and got a bunch of orvis rod tubes under $20 each. even found some helios carbon fiber tubes! they work well but are not really in a minimalist vein, so to speak. two rods wi...
