I was using spinning gear and before that my good old Zebco 33 classic.
Still have those Ugly Sticks. Still have those old style Cabela's XML spinning rods. St. Croix spinning rods old ones still performs great.

Re: Looking for a rod brand that fits a criteria /a rod brand comparison
Like an Ugly Stick but better. Shimano Teramar SE models, but made in China. The TC4 blank construction is tough and yet sensitive. These rods are just over $100. Not sure what the current inflated price is.

Re: J-Braid vs X9 vs Nanobraid
Haven't ever tried or considered YGK. That YGK x8 Upgrade is the best braid on the market imo. Not even that expensive. It appears that every rating of YGK breaks at a lower number than its listed rating? Yeah, I confirmed that for myself with my crude fish scale home test. However the me...

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one secretly using a spinning reel seat with a baitcasting reel mounted.

Re: Luck or Skill?
Awesome narrative. I attribute myself to mostly luck and barely skills. Skill is like, not cross casting over others in public spots. Skill is also like knowing how to work artificial lures over that of just plain reeling it back. Especially in certain scenarios of working a plain spoon lu...

Re: Black Friday 2022 List:
This is just that one year that I have no plans for any particular Black Friday deals. For somehow the local tackle store offered up some awesome deals of up to 50% off on stuff on hand. Yeah, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I did acquired some stuff that I had wanted some years ago, ju...

I'm on the one of the worst buys of my life on these lures. Still hoping that one day it will get bit. Maybe when the fish are biting on anything scenario.

Re: Guides wrapped on the spine of the blank
The differences are minute and subtle, but sometimes it makes a difference of feeling a bit off or just right in the action or balance of the tool. Not everyone buys like multiples of the same thing, when most typical one type of each will work. This is sometimes when I'm shopping and actually looki...

Re: Jerkbait rod
Mine has always been the St. Croix LE 6'8" MXF for 1/4 - 3/8 oz. Originally they labeled it as a topwater rod and yeah, topwater is what I mainly use it for. When I first started with some Salmo Sting in 7 and 9's, it was perfect. Almost as if I was feeling the fish breathe on the lure before the ac...

...and with a few mod of attaching a scope and 10 round clip, you will have yourself a bushcraft shootem or fishem bayou rig. It's essentially all lead.
