Re: Anybody here have experience with Kistler spinning rods?

Spooled Up, I had Kistler custom build a Z-bone for me, because they did not offer the rod I wanted as a standard build. I have the 4 weight in 7' 3" length with stainless steel framed SIC Fuji "KR" micro guides. At the time I purchased Kistler had a standard KLX Speck and Red inshore fishing rod at...

Re: Anybody here have experience with Kistler spinning rods?

Spooled Up, I own both a Z-bone and a KLX Kistler spinning rod --- both are the same weight blank and both are nice rods -- I was looking to see how much difference I would see in the 2 rods. The Z-bone has more backbone / slightly stiffer / and definitely more sensitive, it also casts about the sam...

Re: Using Cable ties for guide layout

Concerning cutting off cable ties. I have not attempted, yet, but I figured I might be able to cut them off with a pair of side cutters. I thought I might cut the locking portion of the cable tie. Could have already attempted it and reported on it -- but I've got other things going for a while, and ...

Using Cable ties for guide layout

In the past I'd always taped, then moved and retaped guides into position when attempting to figure out where I wanted to put them on a new rod blank. Just recently, however, Jim Ising gave me the suggestion of using plastic cable ties. With my first attempt I learned that one should adjust the cabl...

Re: What was your first "nicer" reel?

I bought a low profile Lew's Speed Spool when they were introduced -- 1970's. At the time they had a premium model with a Ruby line guide, but I passed on the expense of that and purchased the standard model. It was a huge upgrade for me at the time, and I fished with it for several years, along wit...

Re: Fuji Small Diameter KR Concept Guides

I've ordered spinning rods with KR Concept guides manufactured by 3 different companies --- Quantum, Kistler, and St. Croix. There KR micro guide rods all came standard with 4.5 size running guides (the smallest guides going toward the tip. In addition, they all had size 4.5 tip tops. Since that tim...

Re: Looking for 2 new spinning rods

Bass Pro's top of the line Johnny Morris II is now on sale for $110. I own some of the heavier rods in this model and have been pleased with the quality I got for the price. I like the Fuji K guide system on these rods. If the hold up well, the guides on the Carbon lite rod would likely be lighter a...

Re: Omen Black medium heavy spinning rod

Thanks for the reply once again. I just placed an order with Tackle Warehouse and purchased two of these rods. Sounds like they should work well for my intended purpose.

Re: Omen Black medium heavy spinning rod

Thanks for the information. What are you currently using your medium heavy Omen for? Do you consider it a good purchase made?

Omen Black medium heavy spinning rod

I'm thinking about purchasing the 7' 1" Omen Black medium heavy spinning rod and was hoping another member may have one and could give me a review of sorts. I know it's lure rating starts at 3/8 -- but any idea how it throws 1/4 ounce? I'm thinking on running 30 lb. braid on this rod -- and then eas...

Re: Anyone Used Cork Sealer on Cork Handles?

Thanks for the replies. I had attempted a search this forum thread for cork sealer and could not find anything -- hence the question. Good to know that people are using the product and like it. I talked with another rod builder who told me he had trouble when the cork aged there seemed to be some ug...

Anyone Used Cork Sealer on Cork Handles?

I noticed a product to seal cork handles in one of my rod building catalogs, and am curious if anyone on this forum has used such a product? If someone has tried it, I would also like to know what you thought of the results? Is such a product worth using?

Re: Cabelas, BPS, TW User Reviews

One reason reviews on Bass Pro and Cableas may seem like the review writer has not hardly used the product is that shortly after receiving the product -- before most purchasers' have used the product much -- if at all-- the companies send a request asking for a review. Therefore if the purchaser has...

Re: Anyone fishing Rivers?

I have not specifically fished for bass -- but under the conditions you describe I would try fishing later in the day for two reasons. It may likely be more pleasant weather for you to fish --- and you will also be fishing the river when the fish may be more active based on even slightly elevated ri...

Re: Anyone dump SPINNING all together??

In my profession, and in the part of the country where I live I guide many times more less experienced anglers than ones who are proficient casting with a casting reel. If I attempted to guide trips where charter groups were predominantly casting with casting reels I might loose a significant portio...
