Re: Ultra-lite for throwing micro jigs

Yes, the Legend Elite is MUCH nicer. I haven't fished the 7' Legend Elite but did own a fast action 6' UL Legend Elite for a while. The are lighter, have a better handle, a thinner and crisper blank and the green looks awesome. One thing that concerns me with the 7' Legend Elite is the Mod-Fast rat...

Re: Enthusiast Version of the A-Rig

I wouldn't much care to try that rig, but I'd be happy to fish in their test lake.

Re: I'm a New Member from Finland

The best trip of my life was the week I spent in Finland. My closest friend from school was half Finnish, her mother was from near Porvoo and she still has a summer cabin on Krako. I did not get to do any fishing but I would give anything to live in that part of the world one day. Beautiful place. F...

Re: Favorite In-Line Spinners

Panther Martin, Regular and Spotted series, sizes 1,2, and 4. (1/32, 1/16, and 1/8oz).

And bend the wire in front of the blade a bit, surprisingly this gets rid of a lot of line twist.

Re: G loomis SJR6400

I've used one for creek smallmouth fishing and will also agree with the above posts. It is a powerful backbone with a very fast taper allowing it to throw little lures for big fish. The GL2 (discontinued) version is softer and a tad slower than the IMX version but you could score a deal on those if ...

Re: Spinning reel decision

If you want to run 6-8 lb line go with the 2000, 8-10 choose the 3000. I actually fish a pair of Daiwas in 2000 and 2500 (same dimensions as 300 but shallower spool) and I load the two spools for each with 6 and 8 and 8 and 10 respectively. I spent a lot of time looking for a 12lb line to use on the...

Re: So who's used these new shimano rods?

I had my one-year-old Compre 6'6" MH spinning rod replaced under warranty with the new version (6'8") and I have to say I am not altogether convinced the upgraded blank is a whole lot better. It does not seem as crisp. The 'old' IM-8 Compre felt noticeably better than my St. Croix Premiers, the new ...

Looks like most replies here are about Loomis and St. Croix products to me.

Still waiting for Dobyns to release the trout, walleye, steelhead, surf, inshore and crappie rods so it is a fair fight... 8-)

Re: The P-Line pref......

I don't like p-line, it's way too thick for it's lbs test. 12 and 14 is thicker than the other brands and super stiff. I have fluro clear green on my crank setup and don't like it, wanted to get halo from TW but they didn't list the line diameter size. :| Not Really Here is a diameter comparison of...

Re: The P-Line pref......

I use a lot of CX on everything from ultralights to MH setups. I have debated trying Fluoroclear on the lighter setups but so far have no reason to change.

I, too, switched from Excalibur to the CX.

Re: Fastest baitcaiting reel

You can find spinning reels that pull in more line than the fastest baitcasters all day long. They have lower gear ratios but much larger diameter spools. You never hear hype about a burner spinning reel but most of the popular models and sizes would qualify based on inches per turn. I personally th...

Re: Plastics weight?

It's just a me-thing, I need to know the weight of everything I tie on. I don't have as long a history with plastics as I do other baits to get a feel of whose are heavier or lighter for the size.

Re: pay more for rod, reel, or equal on both?

I think for a lot of guys it depends on the purpose. Like you said, spend more of the budget for the reel on a reaction bait setup with a lot of casting and retrieving and spend more of the budget on the rod for a feel or finesse setup. I tend to find a reel series I like and buy a couple sizes, the...

Re: Travel Rod Suggestions

The St. Croix travel rods are Triumph and Premier only, if you wanted better than SCII from St. Croix you'd ave to get a fly rod blank built as a spinning rod (people do this). I use a 2pc 6' UL rod as my travel rod, and think a 2pc is almost as good as a 3 or 4 piece when it comes to handiness. I'v...
