Re: Thinking about making a ultralight casting rod, need hel
Not the advice you'll probably want to hear, but I would definitely suggest using some ultralight rods or at least handling some before throwing down cash for your own build. Not only will I echo that comment, I'll add another... Do not make your dream build your first build. There is a big learnin...

Re: Thinking about making a ultralight casting rod, need hel
I've read tons of good things about the K2 from Phenix, How do you think the Mirage would compare to the Matrix?

I use to think that I wanted a crisp, fast action tip, but now find myself leaning towards softer actions. Choosing the perf...

Re: Thinking about making a ultralight casting rod, need hel
This would probably be the blank I would suggest. Black Matrix 6' UL http://www.mudhole.com/AMSJ720-B?quantity=1?quantity=1 There is also a 6'6" L version you could consider. DaveJ Thank you for the suggestion! Do you know of other more popular UL casting blank that people usually build on? (maybe ...

Thinking about making a ultralight casting rod, need help
Hi yall, I am starting to get into ultralight baitcasting and initially wanted to get a pre-build rod from MajorCraft (Speedstyle / MS-X) but after reading up here alittle and watching tons of rod building video I'm leaning towards building a rod. I am already unsure how to choose a pre-build rod so...

Re: Any braids better than Daiwa Samurai?
Really interested in the Maxima (braid 8) after reading this thread. Any idea where I can get the line from (in yello / HV) that ships internationally? Only online shop that sells em is TackleWarehouse but they dont have em in yellow.
If all else fails i'll fall back on smackdown.
Thanks!

What line to match Yumeya MG 32mm.
Hi all, I finally took the plunge and got the Yumeya 32mm MG for my XT 1000. I have not decided on the rod yet but it will most likely be from MajorCraft. Either the Volkey or Speedstyle in the 1/32 ~ 1/4 flavor. the fish I will mainly be catching is peacock bass and the lures I will mainly be using...

Re: Best aftermarket BFS spool?
I haven't measured any distances so I won't guess. I have a football field right by my place so I will measure the distance with various lures. I mainly use the Rapala UL series and the Rapala CD-1. I throw spinners and jigs as well. I use a 16 Aldebaran BFS XG for my reel. Awesome! I was really te...

Re: Need some help starting out BFS.
Thanks for the replies! I will be definitely looking into those rods. I hope this information will help but the types of lures I would like to cast is the 2inch 1/16oz pin minnow. As for the spool, I currently have a deal on the Yumeya 32mm MG for about 3/4 the price of the KTF. Not sure if I should...

Re: Best aftermarket BFS spool?
Honestly, if I were trying to cast 1/16 oz hardbaits, I'd opt for a shallow spool finesse spinning reel and a longer rod. Probably something from the Major Craft Finetail series. The bass casting rods, even the light power aren't going to load up well with that light of bait. Not to mention hardbai...

Re: Best aftermarket BFS spool?
Do you think that is plausible if I go with Air bearing and ~6lb braid (heard good things about the tracer)?[/quote] I've been using 8lb Gliss all year. Holds up well as long as you use a fluorocarbon leader (which you should be doing anyway). I pulled in a pretty big log from a river with it. Its ...

Re: Best aftermarket BFS spool?
Member John G had mentioned in one of your other threads he has a 32 mm Yumeya spool. The price is right. I'd get that and call it a day. Plug some air spool bearings in it and you will be set. When I had mine in my Scorpion I was casting 3/32 total weight without issue. One brake on, no thumbing, ...

Re: Best aftermarket BFS spool?
Thanks guys! The spool will be going on a XT 1000. As for the rod, I have not bought it yet but I am leaning towards the newer Majorcraft Speedstyle. Exact model unknown an I am deciding between the shorter 6'4" or the longer 6'6". I thought the Yumeya would be higher up on the list seeing that many...

Best aftermarket BFS spool?
Hi yall, I wan wondering what the best BFS spool you can(Or could in the case of something like the Yumeya) buy. From the top of my head, the brands that are commonly mentioned on the forums are ZPI, KTF, Yumeya and Avail. Have anyone had the chance to try more than two of them and can give some inp...
